1:00 p.m. A windless sail.
The main sail is barely full.
The flag is barely blowing.See that white thing on the back rail? You might think it was part of the radar. I finally figured out what it really is. A spider house! There's a little spider that always builds a web right underneath. Right where I put my head. Every time we sail I knock it down. The other day I saw him catch an aphids, and wisk him away right into a hole in the bottom.
I'm trying to understand how to adjust the main. It's a big deal that it's even up. Jerry likes to sail with just the jib. No jib this day. No wind!
Rather than un-reef the main, Jerry decides to rig an alternate clew with rope at the mast to relieve all those baggies.
See, it looks good except for the wrinkles in the lower right hand corner. Down by the mast.
Just a picture.
Actually, there were zillions of Pacific White Sided Dolphin playing around. They are smaller than the ones we usually see.
Another one of my sun shots. My mood perks up when the sun shines.
Here's the jib! Barely. Not enough wind to hold it out. So just a little bit out so it doesn't flog all over the shrouds.
Pathetic draft in the main. If it wasn't reefed, adjustments could be made.
Here we are just out minding our own business on Valentine's Day,
and Jerry sees a big streak up and across the sky.
Couldn't figure out what it was!
News that night: "Meteor Blast Hits Russia". Coincidence? Probably.
5:00 Back to the dock.
18.4 miles
Avg. speed: 5 kt
Max speed: 10 kt (really?)
